A good deal of information about John Muir's hiking in the Sierra Foothills on his way to Yosemite can be found on the site www.johnmuir.org/walk created by Peter and Donna Thomas. In 2006, they reenacted John Muir's 1868 trip (for which the original journals were lost) and provided an abundance of background information valuable to anyone considering a visit along the Highway 132 Gateway to Yosemite National Park.
The portion of their hike located in and around Coulterville/Greeley Hill started on day 28 and ended on day 29. These notes can be found at the following link... www.johnmuir.org/walk/thomas_journal/V.day28.html
